A Letter to My Babies From Quarantine

As Los Angeles continues to open up today after three months of quarantine, I'm anxiously awaiting what this will mean for us all.  What will our new normal of social distancing look like post-lockdown and will we be able to keep COVID numbers down? We snapped these photos just outside of our home to commemorate this crazy time.

Our curls (and some of our eye brows) have grown like crazy, Sadie has doubled in size and Naiya has finished her first year of preschool on zoom calls. What a crazy few months it has been! Along with today's photos and outfit details, I'm sharing a letter I've written to my babies to remember this time.

A Quarantine Letter To My Babies

It's been a long three months of quarantine in the Galanty household, let alone in homes across the world.  COVID-19 seems to have changed the very fabric of our society and nothing feels the same.

Mamas have been forced to wear almost every hat in the book at the same time--full-time teacher, chef, employee, etc, while trying to stay sane and balance ALL the things. And since writing has been such an amazing outlet for me throughout the quarantine period, sharing a letter I wrote to my babies below to commemorate this time.

While 2020 may not make any sense as we're trudging through, it is my hope that we'll look back at this year someday and hindsight will be 2020:

Dear Naiya & Sadie:

The first few months of Sadie's life have been quite a game changer. Soon after Sadie came into the world, we started to experience glimpses of history repeating themselves in a strange, tangled web. Itā€™s as if The Bubonic Plague, The Civil Rights Movement and The Great Depression have all been happening at once.

Itā€™s A LOT but here we are...and I have to believe we are all going to come out of this stronger, more woke, accepting and grateful than before. After all, a mama can dream. And since it still feels uncomfortable to be jumping back into sharing original content right now, I came across a quote by Sonya Renee Taylor that seems to sum up my current mindset perfectly:ā€œWe will not go back to normal. Normal never was.

Our pre-corona existence was never normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate and lack. We should not long to return, My friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.ā€

And so, Naiya and Sadie, I promise to lean into this new normal to help inspire you to stitch the most beautiful garment you possibly can. And Iā€™ll help you to teach as many people in your lifetime how to be the change and sew this beautiful garment too.

-Love, Your (Very) Sleep Deprived Mama
